Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Ground School

Federal regulations will likely soon require all commercial and public UAS operators to receive aeronautical knowledge and pass a written aeronautical knowledge test in order to legally operate a UAS within the United States. Most Certificates of Waiver or Authorization (COAs) issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to public or commercial UAS operators already require their UAS operators to have some level of pilot certification and/or aeronautical knowledge.

More important than checking a box for the purposes of meeting federal regulations, UAS operators that attend Alta’s UAS ground school will receive first-rate training from a highly-qualified & experienced flight instructor. The course will prepare UAS operators in all aspects of flight to include the following topics:

  • Aerodynamics & Flight Principles
  • Atmosphere and Weather
  • National Airspace System
  • Communications
  • Navigation
  • Flight Planning
  • UAS Operations and Regulations
  • UAS and Aircraft Systems
  • Aeronautical Decision Making

Alta keeps in tune with the latest regulatory requirements for UAS operators in updating this curriculum. Additionally, we understand that the requirements of various UAS operators may differ substantially from one operation to another, so we strive to custom-tailor this ground school to meet your own personal and/or organizational needs.
